Smartphones have become those inseparable companions of our lives, as we can forget about keys or wallets, but surely we feel that we lack something when we do not have our phones on top.
In addition, as we already know, mobile phones are opening up new possibilities beyond mere communication, since it allows us to pay in establishments (it is already common to see people use their phones to pay in the POS instead of using their cards), manage connected devices, and as we have also mentioned on occasion, in the future will also allow us to identify ourselves officially without having to have our physical documents on top.
In fact, we have already discussed that the new DGT app is on its way to becoming an alternative to the physical driving licences that are usually carried in your pocket.
Now we have just learned that something similar will happen with the National Identity Card in Spain, since the National Police has just opened the possibility that people can get a digital version of our documents on our phones.
In this sense, the DNIe Digital Identity Project, integrated into the España Digital 2025 plan, contemplates not only the creation of a new version of the physical ID, known as ID 4.0, which will be safer and interoperable, but among other aspects, It also contemplates the creation of the DNIe ON THE MOBILE application, to have a digital version of our IDs on our mobiles, although at the moment the details are unknown.
Other aspects included in the project include speeding up the procedures for issuing the DNI, allowing aspects such as the possibility of payment of the fee through cards, and also allowing the photographs themselves to be taken in the offices themselves, avoiding having to have photos in advance.
For the project Digital Identity DNIe a total investment of 25 million euros is envisaged, of which 6.5 million euros are already collected in the year 2021.
