Business mail hacking attacks topped the list of the largest and most profitable security risks facing users for their perpetrators, with business mail hacking losses reaching $ 1.77 billion last year.

According to the FBI’s and the Internet Crime Complaint Center that released its annual report Recently, all losses combined with emotional fraud, identity theft, credit cards, phishing and ransomware during the same period are dwarfed by this large number.

The FBI released a press release, announcing that losses from business mail hacking attacks have exceeded $ 26 billion globally over the past three years. To put it in the context of the comparison, it became clear that the known losses, recorded to date as a result of this threat, exceeded the total global losses resulting from both the ransomware software (Wanna Cray $ 4 billion) and the software (Note Betia $ 10 billion).

Realizing the seriousness of this threat and its impact on users, Palo Alto Networks researchers continue to focus on a key focus of their research on Nigerian cyber crime, given the high rate and huge amount of business mail attacks coming from that region.

Together, these hostile entities, called SILVER Trier, have produced over 31,300 malware models that have entered 2.1 million cyber attacks.

Since the humble beginnings of these groups in 2014, which consisted of a few individuals tampering with malicious commercial software, the data shows that their number has grown dramatically to include more than 480 different entities and groups that the FBI is currently tracking.

In five years (2015 to 2020), Silver Trier groups have evolved from a group of beginner messengers to become seasoned cyber criminals.

According to Palo Alto Networks’ latest findings, we have seen an increase in business mail penetration attacks targeting the legal and professional services sectors by 1163% in 2019.

(Petal Rinales), security threat analyst at Palo Alto Networks, said: “2019 saw business mail breakthroughs with an average of 92,739 attacks per month at least !, peaking in July 2019 by over 245,637 attacks, representing a 172% increase compared to 2018, and the most common tools that SILVER Trier groups relied on is attacking organizations once their networks were hacked, data theft, and remote systems management tools.
